Our preventive services provides mandated social services to families that have been identified by the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) and/or other community agencies in need of preventive services for their families to help avert foster care placement of their children.
The services are free of charge to any family from Brooklyn's Community Board 2, 3, and 16 (Fort Greene, Bedford Stuyvesant and Brownsville) who meet the following criteria:
- Parents with children under 18 years old who are at risk of foster care placement;
- Parents who are overwhelmed with caring for their children;
- Youth with behavior and school problems, such as chronic truancy;
- Persons In Need of Supervision (PINS) Diversion youth;
- Youth who have come into contact with the Juvenile Justice System;
- Parents with substance abuse issues.
Referrals are made directly or through ACS and the Children Aid Society. Walk-ins and self-referrals are also accepted for the General Preventive and Family Rehabilitation programs.
