Community Food Assessment

This Thursday, March 22, we will be hosting a Community Food Assessment, which will be co-facilitated by Mireille and Kassy Nostram from Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership. We're looking for advice from the community about how to improve the local food system.

We can't wait to hear what everybody has to say!

Thank You, Muchas Gracias, Merci Beaucoup

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the artists, supporters, and donors who made our 3rd Annual Art Show & Sale a tremendous success.

Proceeds from this year's event will help CDSC renovate and structurally upgrade over 5,000 square feet of raw space into a community arts center. The creation of the community arts center will help us further our mission by fostering skill development, self-expression, knowledge, enjoyment, and community connections through the creative process.

Thanks to the donation of pro bono services by KOKO Architecture + Design, we have the design and model of the future center. To see the design plan, visit KOKO here.

You can help make this center a reality by making an online donation today.

300,000 Children Could Lose Child Care and Head Start

Congress will be returning to Washington on November 15, 2010 and has limited time to ensure that ARRA funding is not cut for child care and Head Start!

300,000 children shouldn't be dropped from child care and Head Start. In addition, we need to create the Early Learning Challenge Fund to encourage states to do even better for young children and families.

Congress is considering appropriations bills that could go backwards in spending for child care and Head Start, as well as lose the Early Learning Challenge Fund.

Save the date: November 15

Join us on November 15 for a national day to take action! Tell Congress to move forward and fund the CHild Care and Development Block Grant, Head Start, and the Early Learning Challenge Fund.

A toll-free number and talking points will be provided. Tell your friends!

Local Produce Link at CDSC's Emergency Food Pantry

CDSC's Emergency Food Pantry will participate in the Local Produce Link program again this year. Sponsored by the United Way of NYC and Just Food, Local Produce Link brings fresh, organic produce to food pantries and soup kitchens across New York City.

The vegetables CDSC receives come from The Farm at Miller's Crossing located in the Hudson Valley. Farmer Chris Kashen and his family will be delivering produce to the pantry every week beginning June 2. Thanks to all those who make this important program possible!
